More color stuff...

Here's another page of color. I think this is pretty much where the color style for the book is going. Kind of loose and graphic.

Happy Holidays!

Just wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone. I was just experimenting with a different color style for Gabby and Gator. Hopefully I'll have this book out in 2008.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

Cheers!

Checkin' In!

Just thought I'd post a link to what I've been doing as of late.( Too Much Storyboard )This is a song that I boarded for the second season of Wubbzy. It's called too much of a good thing. Give it a listen and check out the visuals.

I've been pretty swamped at work on wubbzy as of late. Which means that there has been little to no time to work on Gabby and Gator. I'm hoping to get back to working on their book soon.

If I don't post again before the Holidays are over, Happy Holidays.

Working away!

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I recently finished my stint at Nickelodeon on Sept.7th. Since then I've been traveling the globe. Okay I've been to Legoland not the globe. On October first I'll be starting back on the second season of Wow Wow Wubbzy. Until then I'll be working away on the graphic novel version of my Adventures of Gabby and Gator. I've been busily working on that for about the last week. Things are going well and it's turning out swimmingly. Here is a random rough page.

I'm hoping to have the entire book roughed out by the end of next week. I'll try and post more stuff later.

San Diego Comic Con was a hit!

Sorry for the absence of any posts as of late. I've been busy unpacking, painting and trying to decorate my new house. Along with working and hanging out with the family.

Comic Con was a big success. I sold all the Gabby and Gator books and plushes. (If you'd like a copy of the GG book it's available at Lulu.com.) Thanks to all who stopped by and supported me. Most people were excited to see something new from me. Although there were a few Martin's Misdirection fans that left disappointed.

There were a few highlights worth mentioning.

The first being that I met someone from a literary agency and I'm working on turning the Gabby and Gator book into a graphic novel. I'll keep you posted as that progresses and things develop. I'm sure it will be a slow process with no guarantee of success. But I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens.

The second highlight was that I sold a Gabby sketch to Judd Apatow and his lovely wife. For those of you who don't know, Judd Apatow wrote 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked up. He's also the producer of Super Bad. That was pretty much my only star encounter and the only time I geeked out on someone. I felt ashamed afterwards. I'll have to post some pics later.

In other news I registered GabbyandGator.com. Don't go there just yet though. There's nothing at the moment. I'm working on a Gabby and Gator blog which the new address will point to in the future. The GG blog might follow the process of creating the GG Graphic Novel.

Next month I'll be rolling onto the second season of Wow Wow Wubbzy. I'm looking forward to that.

That's about it for now. I'll try and post some new artwork soon.

A public service announcement!

This is Gabby's manifesto and the back cover of the new book.

Small Press Pavilion

I forgot to post that I'm at table O-8 in the Small Press Pavilion at this years San Diego Comic Con. I'll be there signing, talking and just hanging out. If you're going, stop by and say hello. I should have the new Gabby and Gator books, the Gator plush and a handfull of original art pieces. I'll see ya there!

The Adventures of Gabby and Gator

It's been a while sense I've posted anything. Lets just say my life has been chaos lately. Between selling my house and waiting for the escrow to close on the new one, trying to get stuff together for comic con and working on a pre-school television show I'm on the verge of insanity.

There is good news though. I've finished the Gabby and Gator story. It's been a week of late nights but it is done and off to the printer. Now I just have to wait and see if it will come on time. I've also got my fingers crossed that it will turn out right. I didn't have time to order a proof so I'm taking a risk. My intial order is only 25 but that was the biggest amount I could get and still hopefully receive it before the 25th of July.

The book is 48 pages, perfect bound, black and white and measures 7.5" square.

I'm really happy with the way the story turned out. I can't wait to see it printed.

Gator plush

Here is my first attempt at making a plush toy. This fits in with the story I'm working on. Where Gator arrives in the mail after being ordered from the back of a comic book. So I guess this is actually Gator as a baby. Although I wouldn't try flushing this down the toilet.

Gator the early years

I'm finally working on my new story for comic con. Here is a peek at Gator's developmental years. No wonder the guy has issues.

I'm having fun so far. I'm about two pages in. I'm trying to work on it a little each night before I go to bed. I have no script, just some loose ideas. I'm letting it develop as I go. The scratchy line work is actually the final look.

Once I'm through with Gator's side of the story, then it's onto Gabby. Stay tuned!

Martin's Misdirection

I've started a blog for my comic, Martin's Misdirection. I'll be posting the last five years worth of strips along with commentary. The first 25 strips are up for viewing. I'll be adding more as I have time.

martinsmisdirection.blogspot.com

Eventually Martinsmisdirection.com will also point to the same page. That way I can save a little cash.

San Diego Comic Con 2007

I just received word that I was approved for space in small press at this years San Diego Comic Con. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to sell. I usually have a new Martin's Misdirection collection to offer but sense I haven't been working on any new strips in a while that doesn't seem likely. Which means I have less than four months to put something together, either a new MM book or a Gabby and Gator story. Regardless I'm looking forward to this years Con. I always have a great time hanging out and meeting people. Hope to see you there.

Bottoms up!

Here are a few sketches from this past weeks drawing class at Nick. As you can tell I survived the fever and I'm doing quite well. The only exception is that I recently found out that my end date at Nick is March 30. Which means it's back to pounding the pavement looking for work. Gotta love this business.

Come on in...the waters fine!

I'm dieing! Well not quite, at least I don't think so. I do have a 100+ fever though and I feel like crap. I thought I'd post this for your viewing pleasure. I finished this the other night. You can see Gator's character evolve from the intial ones I did below till now. I think it's coming along nicely although a bit slower than I'd like.

The Ming Dynasty

This piece dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Happy Chinese New Year

This is a piece I just finished for a group show at Nickelodeon. The theme is Chinese New Year. This one is completely digital but I'm working on a traditional one too.

These are some sketches from todays life drawing class at Nick. I think these were all five minute poses done with a fine tipped sharpy on copy paper.

Eleanore

Here is one of the other characters from my new comic. Her name is Eleanore. She works the grave yard shift at the local mortuary putting make up on the recently deceased. Nothing is definite though. I'm still working out the details.

Belmont's cribby crib

Here is the house where Belomont lives. For those of you who don't know who Belmont is, he's my latest comic creation. I had a mental breakthrough yesterday and managed to work out some of the ideas for Belmont's universe. Thus his brownstone. He lives on the top floor of the middle house the one with the rain gutter coming down the front.

A little salt goes a long way.

This started as just a drawing of a salt shaker that I did in my sketchbook while eating at In & out. I then decided to add the snail and the caption as a funny after thought.

Studio Cribs

Welcome to my studio crib. No Cristal(sp?) here just Starbucks and lots of books and way too much clutter. I recently had to pack everything up because we want to move and needed to clear the room for prospective buyers. That and the fact that if we ever had an earthquake I'd be burried alive.

A sketch a day keeps...it keeps...i've got nothing! Sorry.

Here is another page of sketches. These were done during lunch at various mexican restaraunts in the Burbank area. I'm a big fan of the mexican food. I could pretty much eat it every day. Mmmmmm!

A head is a terrible thing to waste!

I recently started drawing in my sketchbook again. When I first started working in the Animation industry I carried my sketchbook every where and drew constantly. After a few years I carried it less and less. Now thanks to the pestering of my co-worker Aaron I've started to draw in it again. Thanks Aaron!

Cars go beep! Beep!

I drew these while riding in the car on the way to a christmas party.
